A DO number and date
Your business details and the deliver-to name and address
The customer's PO number or your invoice number, so the documents can be matched
Each item with its quantity and unit, without prices
A block for the receiver's name, signature, date and time, and company stamp

Delivery order, invoice or packing list?

The delivery order travels with the goods and comes back signed: it is your proof of delivery. The invoice asks for payment. A packing list describes how the goods are packed (cartons, weights) and is used mostly for shipping and export. Many customers will not pay an invoice until their store has a signed DO on file, so keep the signed copies.

Proof of delivery that holds up

Print two copies: one stays with the customer, one comes back signed.
Ask for a name, signature, date and company stamp, not just a squiggle.
Write any shortage or damage on the DO before it is signed.
File the signed copy against the invoice; a clear photo or scan is fine.

On the customer's side, the same delivery is checked against their goods received note. If you invoice from the DO, click "Turn into invoice" so the quantities match exactly.

What is the difference between a delivery order and a goods received note? The seller issues the delivery order with the goods. The goods received note is the buyer's own record of what actually arrived.
